About the role

ROLE OVERVIEW

JumpCloud wants a Software Engineer 3 (SRE) for its Infrastructure & Reliability Engineering team. The role sits at the centre of platform resilience: high availability, performance, recoverability and operational maturity across production systems.
The employer says this is not a traditional operations role. SREs are engineers first: they design automation, build observability frameworks, set reliability standards and cut toil through code, across the directory platform and microservices.

ABOUT THE EMPLOYER JumpCloud describes itself as an AI-powered unified IT management platform that combines identity, device and access management so organizations can secure their workforce, including autonomous AI agents, at scale. Every JumpCloud role is remote unless the posting says otherwise. WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

Reliability, availability and performance of critical systems and APIs on AWS and GCP
SLIs, SLOs and error budgets with application teams
Datadog-based observability and Golden Signals monitoring
On-call, incident response and blameless post-incident reviews
Production Kubernetes (EKS) with Argo CD and Kargo
Modular Terraform for multi-cloud infrastructure
Disaster-recovery dashboards, runbooks, failover automation and validation tests
Python or Go automation to eliminate toil
AI-assisted development tools for scripting, runbooks and triage

WHAT THE EMPLOYER IS LOOKING FOR

5+ years in SRE, DevOps or Platform Engineering on 24/7 mission-critical systems
Hands-on Python/Go for SRE tools, automation and cloud integrations
Production Kubernetes operations, container orchestration and GitOps (Argo CD)
Solid Terraform experience
Operating AWS workloads (EKS, IAM, VPC, Route53, ALB/NLB) or GCP
FinOps: cost-allocation tagging, right-sizing and spend dashboards
DR dashboards, failover drills and health monitoring
Datadog (or similar), PagerDuty, alerting hygiene and SLI/SLO frameworks
Service meshes (Istio or similar) and HA proxies (HAProxy, NGINX or similar)
Strong troubleshooting, collaboration and drive for efficiency through code
A team player who lives the company values

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions or GitLab Pipelines
Basic chaos-engineering principles
Secrets management (HashiCorp Vault, AWS Secrets Manager, External Secrets Operator)
Basic DevSecOps and infrastructure-as-code vulnerability scanning
